Mute Swans at Fleetwood Marine Lakes

Around the time I last altered this site several factors came into play which unfortunately led to up-dates ceasing. To anyone who regularly viewed it I apologise for not advising of the site closure. Around the end of May 2005, just as I had ringed all swans recorded at the marine lakes, some type of illness struck. All the swans died. I recorded 34 deaths and there were probably others that had managed to fly before they became to ill. Since that time there has been an odd one passing through but apart from that none at all. I think the illness must have spread further afield, as to my knowledge there are very few swans in the Fylde at all. Most of the breeding sites are deserted and the odd ones that have managed to breed this year have lost cygnets. I will over the coming weeks re-develop the site.
